you must have 98se for ie6. 5.5 should still be around, look for older software sites. i found 5.5 to be very stable.
You don’t say what system you have. Some computers won’t run certain IE versions. It may e preventing you because it won’t run on your computer. IE is PART of windows. If you go to the windows update site – it should find IE that applies to your version of windows.
